Infamous Serial Killers and How Life is Valued . . .

While many of us readily recognize the name and crimes of the following infamous serial killers of our time, what determines their ‘worthiness’ of being reported far beyond the locality of their crimes?

Jeffrey Dahmer
Dahmer was convicted of killing, dismembering, and cannibalizing 17 young men mostly of poor Asian, African-American, and Latino descent.

Ted Bundy
He confessed to roughly 30 murders by the time of his 1989 execution

Charles Manson
Manson and his gang of four people most notoriously killed actress Sharon Tate in 1969. The Manson Family was convicted of killing seven people in total.

Dennis Rader
The BTK (blind, torture, kill )Killer was finally caught in 2005 after murdering 10 people between January of 1974 and January of 2005.

David Berkowitz
In the summer of 1977 in New York City, the Son of Sam, David Berkowitz, killed six people while alerting the police and media detailing his crimes.

Boston Strangler
The Strangler’s reign of terror in Boston lasted from the summer of 1962 to the winter of 1964. A total of 13 women were killed, ranging from 19 to 85 years of age.

Zodiac Killer
The crimes of the Zodiac Killer remain unsolved after more than 40 years. He allegedly killed five people in Northern California from December 1968 to October 1969. and cryptic letters to various newspapers taking credit for them. He 37 murders but police have never identified him.

Richard Ramirez
Ramirez was a heavy drug user and Satan worshiper by the age of 18. By the age of 24, he was a full-fledged serial killer. He was convicted for 13 murders in California that occurred between June of 1984 and August of 1985. His nickname was the Night Stalker

Dr. Kermit Gosnell
Only four babies were admitted as ‘evidence’ in this trial and Gosnell was convicted of murder in only three cases yet in all the years of his abortion ‘practice’, one can only imagine how many other term or near-term babies died within those walls. This doesn’t even take into account the many woman who left with damage. Yet, because it was an abortion issue and took place in only one state, it was not considered National news . . . Yet, most all of us recognize the names of the preceding serial killers listed . . . who could be termed ‘local news’.
