The one thing Christians have on their side in the quickly-fomenting atmosphere of hate, terror, bigotry, and worse is prayer. Can you imagine what a massive multitude of like-minded Catholics/Christians/Jews could do with fervent, daily prayer for our president, our country, and the world? Anyone up for a 365-day Novena beginning July 13, 2019?
In your charity, please pray for today’s intention, Rev. Fr. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Jesus, Savior of the world, sanctify Thy priests and sacred ministers.
V. Remember, O Lord, Thy congregation.
R. Which Thou hast possessed from the beginning.
Let us pray.
O Lord Jesus, born to give testimony to the Truth, Thou who lovest unto the end those whom Thou hast chosen, kindly hear our prayers for our pastors.
Thou who knowest all things, knowest that they love Thee and can do all things in Thee who strengthens them.
Sanctify them in Truth. Pour into them, we beseech Thee, the Spirit whom Thou didst give to Thy apostles, who would make them, in all things, like unto Thee.
Receive the homage of love which they offer up to Thee, who hast graciously received the threefold confession of Peter.
And so that a pure oblation may everywhere be offered without ceasing unto the Most Holy Trinity, graciously enrich their number and keep them in Thy love, who art one with the Father and the Holy Ghost, to whom be glory and honor forever.
“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. it behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.” (Credited to Abraham Lincoln, 1863!)
Midterms are coming up and a faction of our country would like to see the President go down in flames. No, they have no other reason than they didn’t get their way at the 2016 election and when crying and lying didn’t change the story have spent the last couple of years planning his ruin based on lies and misreported information.
The scary part of all this as that many people think our Democratic system of government is not a workable way to life. They want government control which means for many, a nanny state where the ones that actually have a work ethic end up paying for a slackers needs by way of taxes. Not all being of the inquisitive mind set, they call it government support not realizing the more they depend on the government, the less people working, and the less people working, the less for everyone.
The college graduates of today have come forth from the ‘institutions of learning’ without much actual, practical learning in mind. Just the other day, there was an article about college students who couldn’t send out their mail-in ballots because they didn’t know where to get stamps. And these are the people who will fly our planes, teach future children, and rule the country? They are being groomed for Socialism and even some of the brightest (comparatively speaking) find this form of government appealing. Everything will be free and everyone will be happy. History, however, doesn’t reflect that happy bucket of rainbows. The few that would be in charge will not care about the masses that want to depend on them.
Such governments take away identity, freedom of choice, free enterprise, and lives. If we don’t get a ‘red tsunami’ in November 2018, we will be drowned by a ‘blue wave’.
“If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, and the people do not become religious, I do not know what is to become of us as a nation. and the thought is one to cause solemn reflection on the part of every patriot and Christian. If truth be not diffused, error will be; if the evangelical volume (scripture) does not reach every hamlet, the pages of corrupt and licentious literature will; if the power of the gospel is not felt through the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness, will reign without mitigation or end.
Daniel Webster 1782-1852
Self-Worth: Dear Jesus, help our kids know that we are all born as sinners and separated from God because of our wicked hearts. However, at an early age, help our children grasp the life-transforming concept that they don’t have to live as a sinner under that condemnation.
Body Image: Lord we ask that you’d protect our kids from the idea that they must do anything and everything (including abusing their bodies through eating disorders, drug abuse, or other harmful behaviors) in order to attaining a “preferred” shape or figure. We pray you’d protect our kids from that kind of destructive thinking, and that if they’re tempted to take these kind of drastic measures, that you’d send someone in their lives to stop them. Help them to remember over and over that their identity is not in how they look on the outside but what you see as their potential and worth on the inside.
Influences: We pray that you would surround our children with friendships and mentor-type relationships that portray what it means to have an authentic relationship with Christ. In turn, we pray that you would raise our kids up to be the influencers of the next generation. We pray that you would allow godliness and righteousness to dwell in their hearts so richly that these evidences of your truth spill out of them and to every person they encounter.
Passions: God, help us to know how to guide our kids in their passions by blessing us with the divine wisdom to know when to joyfully open up the gates toward new freedoms and desires, and when to curtail our children’s passions because they’re not able to accept the responsibilities yet in full. Help us model to our kids what it means to live passionately for You by boldly following the dreams you’ve placed in our heart, never settling for complacency.
Money, Possessions and Work: We pray that our kids would persevere in whatever vocation you give them and that they would work with cheerful hearts as if they were serving you directly. We pray that our kids would see at an early age that money and possessions are a gift from You and thus must be always held with an open hand so that You can use those gifts to bless others
