Crock pot Spiced Rum Cider

4 cinnamon sticks – broken
1 teaspoon allspice – whole
Six whole cloves
7 cups apple juice
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
Twists of lemon and orange peel
1 cup rum (optional)

Tie the cinnamon, allspice, and cloves in a spice bag or cheesecloth. In a crock pot, combine spice bag, apple juice, rum and brown sugar. Cover; cook on low heat setting for 3 to 4 hours. Discard spice bag. Ladle hot punch into cups; float about ½ teaspoon of butter on top of the cider in each cup. Serve with a lemon and orange twist. Yield 10-6 oz servings.
